There is always something special about the start of a BRAND NEW YEAR. The potential it holds and the excitement of new beginnings. Just like a fresh white canvas, slightly daunting and thrilling at the same time. A very exciting new development is the forging of formal relationships with both local and international arts organisations with announcements to be made very soon! So watch this SPACE!
This year the exhibition program is going to be more aligned with the residencies and the visiting artists. To kick the year off we are featuring some of the paintings Leigh Cunningham has created since taking up residence in the Butter Room Studio (formally known as the Basement Studio) in November 2013.
Leigh Cunningham , a painter and a recent graduate of PARSONS THE NEW SCHOOL FOR DESIGN NEW YORK. who after graduating worked as a painting assistant to Eric White prior to taking up the residency in Cowwarr.
The duel attractions of a CAN Inc. residency at the Cowwarr Art Space was the benefits of being connected with Melbourne’s rich and thriving art scene, whilst having the opportunity to be removed and work independently in isolation in a rural environment and to explore the things she had no time for at Art School.
As we have crested the hill of 20 years of operation, we can look back with pride and forward with anticipation. We are forever evolving and responding to opportunities that arise; this keeps the Art Space fresh and relevant.
The remodelled Janina Suite on the second floor of the Art Space.
In response to the ever increasing demand for our Artist-in-Residence program, especially from international artists, we have expanded our self contained accommodation to include a short stays studio in the Janina Suite. This enables us to cater for those wishing to have a studio for 1-2 weeks and gives greater flexibility in our program.
We look forward to your next or maybe your first visit.
