The Cowwarr residency is especially attractive to us due to the region, architecture and early history. The former butter factory is particularly intriguing to Paul as his aunt Norma “Duffy” Lyon was known as the “Butter Cow Lady”, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norma_Lyon sculpting past prize cows in butter for the Iowa State Fair and other festivals.
We have been fortunate to participate in month-long Resartis residencies at Arte Studio Ginestrelle in Assisi, Italy and Arteles Creative Center in Hämeekyrö, Finland. We also enjoyed a five-month residency in Riga, Latvia sponsored by the Fulbright organization. In each case the residency was an amazingly fruitful period of creation for us; producing multiple videos, photo essays, choreographies and environmental performance installations. We also developed creative works after returning home that were inspired by our research and experiences during the residencies.
